Harwood/Mongrel's Perl software-code poem Lungs-London.pl rewrites William Blake’s 1792 poem London to include commands linking disparate databases of facts (wars, child health indices, life expectancy, average lung capacity) as the basis for an as yet unrealised sound-based performance for the Thames Estuary. The new poem-code turns these statistics into variables for computing volume, length and number of breaths of an aggregated set of lungs--and their lost capacity. The resulting projected event would breathe this calculated amount of air through a loudspeaker as a sound memorial to the victims.
